When Fashables contacted me and asked if I would be willing to participate in their Summer Trend Report, I was beyond excited. There are so many great trends for this summer that I wanted to talk about but I chose to highlight neon because I am having so much fun with it right now. You can see my feature, along with 21 other bloggers, in the report here.
Also, before we begin, a few things that I wanted to let you guys know- a couple of you have asked me if I'm on pinteret. Can you believe that I'm not? Sad, I know. But honestly, I'm so incredibly busy and I know if I started on pinterest that I wouldn't get anything done. That's not to say that I won't ever, but I don't need another addiction right now. However, I have added a PIN IT button at the button of the page for those of you who are, and want to pin my things onto your boards! I also went back and added the PIN IT buttons to my previous posts for those of you who really like some of the other things. Secondly, I added a search box on my blog so you guys can find things much easier. About time, right?
OK, now for the DIY!
So, I've really been wanting a satchel bag. Actually, I've really been wanting several satchel bags, because they just seem so ideal for summertime. I have all kinds of ideas on how to DIY these bags and one idea I really wanted to try was studding! I've really been loving all of the studded accessories I've been seeing lately, but I haven't really seen any studded satchels, so I found a cheap satchel, and got to work!
What you will need for this DIY: a satchel bag (I got mine for $10 at Target!) I chose a bright neon orange because as you guys know, I'm really in love with neon right now. You will also need pyramid studs (you can easily find these on sites like Etsy- here are 1500 options for you.) You can either go with one size or several sizes. On my bag, I chose to use 9mm and 15mm studs. I also chose an antique brass color to match the hardware on the bag.
Are you guys ready to begin?

Are you guys ready to begin?
1. Gather your materials. Here I have some different sizes of pyramid studs. There are three sizes shown, but only the smaller two are used on the bag (9mm & 15mm).
Here is the bag I'm going to use. The material is thin which makes it easier to pierce the studs through.
2. Lay out the studs on your bag to determine how you will insert them.
3. Carefully begin to insert the studs into the bag. Make sure you turn the ends of the studs inwards after they are inserted. If they are not turned inward, they may poke you when you are reaching into your bag! Ouch!
4. Finish your design.
5. Wear and have a unique satchel bag!
What do you guys think of this DIY? Will you try it?

DeleteReally chic and original this satchel...I understand what you said about Pinterest...I´m an addict.
ReplyDeleteThanks! ya, I know I would become super addicted! ;)
DeleteThis is adorable :) I want one now!!!!! Were the studs hard to put on?
ReplyDeleteThanks, Sarah! They weren't very hard to put in- the thinner the bag material is, the easier the studs will go in. This bag was a fairly thin canvas, so they went in pretty easily. They just puncture through the material.
DeleteLove it!! I thought of doing this but adding studs to the collars on shirts :) xx

DeleteI'm glad you asked me to! I've already fallen in love with your blog and scrolled many pages down! You have great DIY ideas. My instant favorite was the Hello Kitty addition to the Louis Vuitton bag. And this post is great as well. Aside from that, I'm looking forward to buy a bike and I like the style of the one you have in the Casual Cool post. Would you happen to know who makes it?
ReplyDeleteI'm following you definitely ♡
Follow back if you'd like.
Valeria
Thank you so much, Valeria! You are so sweet! As far as the bike- my husband actually just purchased a cheap bike off craig's list for me and spray painted it pink!! I then bought the basket, added the Hello Kitty bell & pink handlebars to it! It was all done for under $100 (including the bike!)
DeleteGreat inspirational post - We definitely trying this DIY out. Congratulations on your feature in fashables.

ReplyDeletejosieowen.blogspot.com
awww thank you, Josie! I'm sure you can find a cheap satchel bag at many places like H&M or UO. :)
DeleteWonderful idea, the purse looks great even though I normally dislike neon and studs!
ReplyDeleteThanks!
DeleteSo cute! Do you think it would work well with leather too?
ReplyDeleteA Preponderance of Fashion
Find me on twitter @FashionBlawger
Thanks! I think it would, but the studs can be quite a pain to push through. If the leather is thin enough, it would be easy!!!
